Customer Reviews:Jon (Thursday, 18 September 2008)Rating: ![]() All-in-all these are pretty nice lights, but like most LEDs intended to replace stock incandescents application is key to both life-span & acceptable lighting.rnrnrnLIGHT OUTPUT: Since these emit most of their light at the tip, they'll work best behind smaller display areas where little to no spread is needed. This style is an excellent replacement for dash warning lights, but you'll probably need the smaller "T5" size bulbs. rnrnThese bulbs will lose a little bit of brightness after a few hours of running time and appear a little dimmer than stock incandescents. In a tighter space, however, they may actually appear brighter than stock. White bulbs provide good brightness about everywhere, but for the best output you should match the color of the LED to the diffuser it sits behind. rnrnrnLONGEVITY: Typically LED lights will FAR outlast the incandescents they replace, but heat is the deciding factor here. The LEDs themselves put out very little heat (a good thing), but if they are near a heat source they WILL fail early. The heat will either destroy the LED itself, or make the solder connection to the attached resistors fail.rnrnrnConstruction: This is where they lose a star. Generally they hold up pretty well, but the resistors soldered to the LED leads (inside the plastic base) have proven to be the weak point. rnrnThe solder joints are less than ideal and tend to come loose under heat. So again, keeping them away from heat sources is the best bet. I would like to note that I've had no problems with the ones I've put in cooler areas (courtesy lamps, door edge markers, tag lights, etc.) but my instrument cluster does get toasty enough to consume an LED here and there. Re-soldering the resistor leads fixed this, but probably isn't a feasible option for everyone.rnrnrnPrice: The only other (very slightly) lower price I found was from an out of country seller, so buying here was a no-brainer for me. :) |
